The original brief called for a sleek garden for entertaining, with strong modern lines, a sense of seclusion and planting built around texture, structure and form rather than soft, blousy colour. The result was a bold, highly individual garden with a distinctly urban edge.
At the heart of the space sits a pale porcelain terrace, framed by architectural planting and a dramatic outdoor fireplace. A polished cube table and built-in seating create a compact but sociable area for evening drinks, while the fireplace brings warmth and theatre to the rear of the garden.
The planting is deliberately restrained but full of interest. Dark Phormium, upright grasses, lime green Euphorbia, ferns and silver foliage create a layered, masculine palette with movement, contrast and depth. Rather than relying on heavy floral display, the garden uses foliage, seedheads and architectural shapes to create impact throughout the space.
A bronze-toned screen adds privacy and warmth, while the large graphic mural gives the garden its unmistakable character. Together, the hard landscaping, fireplace, artwork and texture-led planting create a contemporary entertaining garden that feels secluded, stylish and quietly theatrical.
This was a show garden with attitude: a modern outdoor room designed for entertaining, late evenings, strong drinks and sharper lines.
