The clients, a retired couple with a real appetite for entertaining, wanted a garden that could carry long lunches, evening drinks and unhurried weekends with family and friends. The house itself had already been transformed, so the garden needed to feel equally considered: calm, contemporary and generous, but not cold.
The design is anchored by a striking double Pratic Brera canopy, giving the terrace architectural weight as well as proper year-round shelter. Beneath it, the space becomes a true outdoor room. A generous lounge area, layered lighting and a fully equipped Grillo outdoor kitchen and bar turn the garden into somewhere to cook, pour, sit, talk and stay far longer than planned.
The material palette is crisp and controlled. Grey decking, sleek furnishings, textured walling and dark kitchen cabinetry sit comfortably against the house, while the softer planting and open views stop the space from feeling too severe. The result is smart rather than showy, with enough restraint to feel timeless and enough detail to make it feel special.
There is a pleasing sense of escapism here. On warm days, the louvred canopy opens the space to the sky. When the weather turns, the screens and roof bring everything back under control. In the evening, the lighting, bar and outdoor kitchen give the garden a completely different mood, more private club terrace than ordinary back garden.
It is a garden designed to be lived in properly: for cooking, watching sport, drinking with friends, looking out over the view and making the most of the house long after the kitchen doors have been opened.
