Created for a local high end developer, this Dry Street project called for a landscape that could do more than simply finish a new home. It needed to give the property presence from the moment you arrived, then soften the scale of the building as the garden opened out behind it.

At the front, a generous gravel driveway and brick-edged borders give the house a smart, settled arrival. The planting is deliberately calm and elegant, with white hydrangeas, roses and layered green foliage sitting comfortably against the red brick and cream joinery. It is not fussy, but it does enough to make the house feel grounded rather than newly placed.

To the rear, the garden changes pace. Broad steps draw the eye down from the house into a large lawn, with planted banks on either side creating a natural sense of movement through the levels. The scale is generous, but the detailing keeps it warm: brick risers, pale stone treads, soft perennial planting and long views across the grass towards the surrounding trees.

The planting brings a relaxed, country-house feel without becoming too loose. Silver foliage, purple Salvia, Eryngium, Veronicastrum, roses and soft grasses create colour, movement and pollinator interest through the warmer months. Around the terrace and banks, the planting is allowed to soften the hard landscaping, helping the new architecture feel more established and at ease in its setting.

This is a garden with a careful balance to strike. It had to look polished enough for a high end development, but not so polished that it lost its charm. The result is a composed, elegant landscape that frames the house beautifully, gives the property a strong sense of arrival, and creates a generous rear garden with space, softness and long-term potential.
